District Court Cases:
- Deep Sky Software v. Southwest Airlines Co., represented Southwest Airlines against claims for patent infringement covering database and menu systems. Court awarded attorneys fees to Southwest Airlines following PTO reexamination concluding asserted claims are invalid.
- Microsoft v. Lucent Technologies, represented Microsoft in patent infringement Declaratory Judgment case against Lucent Technologies for MP3 audio technology. The largest jury verdict in the United States at the time ($1.538B) was entered against client Microsoft, then reversed in post-trial motions and affirmed on appeal. No resulting liability to client.
- IPS Group, Inc. v. Duncan Solutions, Inc., represent alleged infringer in patent case involving smart-parking meters.
- Polaroid v. Hewlett Packard Co., represented defendant HP in patent infringement case against patentee which asserted patents to digital image processing technology.
- Edman v. Ma Labs, Inc. et al., defended Wholesaler Ma Labs regarding alleged violations of Trade Agreements Act.
- Shinsedai Company v. Nintendo, represented patentee Shinsedai Co. against Nintendo in assertion of patent regarding video game technology using handheld accelerometer sensors.
- Cornell University v. Hewlett-Packard Company, defended Hewlett-Packard against claims for patent infringement involving RISC processors.
- Microtune v. Broadcom (series of cases), Represented small startup Microtune against industry giant Broadcom in a series of cases involving semiconductors and television tuner technology.
- Microtune (Texas), L.P. v. Broadcom Corp., obtained willful infringement, validity, and enforceability jury verdict for Microtune. Also obtained enhanced damages, and attorneys’ fees.
- Broadcom Corp. v. Microtune (Texas), L.P. and Microtune, Inc, obtained dismissal with prejudice of all claims Broadcom asserted against client Microtune for infringement of semiconductor patent.
- Broadcom Corp. v. Microtune (Texas), L.P., Obtained settlement (reported at $22,500,000) on the eve of trial for client Microtune in declaratory relief case concerning Microtune’s patented RF tuner technology.
- Certain Power Amplifier Chips, Broadband Tuner Chips, and Products Containing Same (Investigation No. 337-TA-490), obtained final determination of noninfringement and invalidity for Respondent Microtune, Inc. in ITC investigation involving ESD protection for integrated circuits.
- Crossroads Systems (Texas), Inc. v. Pathlight Technologies, represented patentee Crossroads Systems in patent infringement action relating to Fibre Channel storage routers in Western District of Texas.
- Crossroads Systems (Texas), Inc. v. Chapparal Network Storage, represented patentee Crossroads Systems in patent infringement action relating to Fibre Channel storage routers in Western District of Texas. Jury verdict for patentee Crossroads Systems, upheld on appeal.
- Hewlett Packard Co. v. Mustek Systems, Inc., represented HP in patent infringement case against competitor scanner manufacturer to jury verdict and appeal.
- RCT v. Hewlett Packard Co., represented defendant HP in patent infringement case against patentee which asserted patents to digital halftoning technology.
Cases Before the International Trade Commission:
- Certain Digital Media Devices, (Investigation No. 337-TA-882), represented Complainant in case involving digital media smart devices against Samsung, Toshiba and others.
- Certain Probe Card Assemblies, Components Thereof and Certain Tested DRAM and NAND Flash Memory Devices and Products Containing Same (Investigation No. 337-TA-621), represented Respondent Micronics Japan Co., Ltd. against complainant FormFactor, Inc., obtained final determination of no violation regarding patents concerning semiconductor probe card technology.
- Certain Audio Digital-to-Analog Converters and Products Containing Same (Investigation No. 337-TA-499) – Represented Complainant Cirrus Logic, Inc. in ITC investigation involving audio digital-to-audio converters. Obtained final determination of section 337 violation.
